Visit Manchester This Bank Holiday Weekend
19th Aug 2008
At 160 miles (257 km) northwest of London, Manchester sits in a bowl-shaped land area bordered to the north and east by the Pennine hills, a mountain chain that runs the length of Northern England and to the south by the Cheshire Plain. The city centre is on the east bank of the River Irwell and is relatively low-lying, being between 115 to 138 feet (35 and 42 m) above sea level Much of the inner city, especially in the south, is flat, offering extensive
views from many highrise buildings in the city of the foothills and moors of the Pennines.
We reccommend a trip up to Cloud Bar on floor 23 of the new Hilton Hotel at the bottom of Deansgate, for one of the best views available of the capital of the North, so you can appreciate the true beauty of the industrial North of England.

"Manchester's got everything except a beach", former Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown once said. From football to food, architecture to alcohol - Manchester has the lot in abundance.
Shopping in Manchester is paradise for shopaholics with its centre and surrounding areas boasting some of the country's most exclusive stores. There are also many unique boutiques and hidden gems to be discovered as well as catering for virtually every high street taste. Manchester's main shopping streets are King Street and St Ann's Square, containing mainly designer shops such as Armani and Hugo Boss, whilst Market Street has mainly high street stores such as Next, Miss Selfridge and Dolcis. If you are looking for that last minute outfit before a night out then Manchester is the place to combine both these activities with style.
If your feeling hungry then name a country and Manchester can provide you with quality cuisine to suite your taste. Manchester restaurants range from the more typical Italian, French, Latin and Chinese, to the rarer Lebanese, Jamaican and Russian cuisines. So depending on how adventurous you are feeling Manchester can give you the perfect place to eat in the city.
You can reserve tables now with our online restaurant booking service to ensure a flavour to suit every taste over the bank holiday weekend.

Manchester offers ever kind of accomodation from budget to luxury serviced apartments availble from 1 night to 1 year! The surrounding areas also offer accomodation in a more rural setting for those wanting to explore the Pennines and countryside in the North West. We hightly reccomend a serviced apartment if there is a group of you visiting for the weekend, you can have a read of our reccomendations from earlier on in the year here, or alternatively take a look at our manchester hotel bookings and find exactly what you're looking for and book online at last minute discount prices.
With four railway stations, Manchester is easily accessed from every part of the country. Manchester Picadilly is the main train station and is served by Northern Rail and Virgin Trains offering links to London, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Birmingham (and everything in between!) with Manchester Oxford Road and Manchester Deansgate serving the south part of the City which may be more suitable for a number of hotels and clubs in the area. Manchester Victoria train station is situated beside the Manchester Evening News Arena and Printworks, and is often used more as a commuter station, however it may be suited for your location. In between these stations and at popular destinations around Manchester is the Metrolink, Manchester's Tram system with trams running up to every six minutes to Bury (north Manchester), Altrincham (south Manchester) and Eccles via Salford Quays.
If for some bizarre reason there isn't a train or tram stop anywhere near your destination, then Manchester has an array of taxi and bus companies all willing to take you where you want to go.
So if you have a night out in Manchester planned already this bank holiday then we hope to have answered a few questions for you - however if you are still looking for somewhere to go this weekend, you might like to read our Manchester Bank Holiday Events Guide.
