Manchester Bank Holiday Club Reccomendations

19th Aug 2008

Bookmark and Share

Whether you fancy something completely different this weekend or just a different club in a different city, Manchester has a lot to offer this August Bank Holiday Weekend.

We have plenty of suggestions below to where you might want to head. However if you are a new visitor to the city, you might first want to read our Guide to Manchester

As day turns into night, the city turns it up a gear. The renaissance has extended to the nighteries, with hundreds of Manchester bars and clubs to choose from.

Deansgate - home to The Living Room, where Posh and Becks, Justin Timberlake and Deansgate Locks are usually frequented by those with a fat wallet. It can, however be enjoyed by anyone and is easily accessed with it's own railway station.

Cloud 23 - located on the 23rd floor of the Beetham Tower - is not one for those averse to heights but the views - and the drink selection - are stunning.

The gay village - on Canal Street - offers a continental style, with drinking and partying taking place on the old cobbled street one made famous by popular TV series "Queer as Folk" though now often overrun by Hen Nights as much as the gay population.

In contrast, the indie scene is located towards the Northern Quarter, with numerous old-style pubs intertwining with trendy bars. Trof - a three-storey arty pub - is famous for its laid back, early evening atmosphere and a good selection of foreign beers and unique cocktails. The Northern Quarter can be found towards the Manchester Piccadilly end of town. Alternatively for more of an indie disco you might want to try 42nd Street or Fifth Avenue.

As the night kicks on, visitors to Manchester have an abundance of choices to continue the fun. Clubbers often travel to Sankeys or Area 51 for a more underground night out, away from the cheese and pop of the Printworks, which is populated by checked shirts, blue wkd drinkers and lots and lots of pop tarts. Good fun all the same.

The great philosopher Noel Gallagher once said, "the thing about Manchester is it all comes from here," pointing to his heart. In modern Manchester, you'll get the great northern welcome in a new cosmopolitan city that might just surprise you.

Our Manchester Bank Holiday Nights Out

Funkademia @ One Central Street - Tickets On Sale Now

Funkademia returns this bank holiday Saturday with a DJ who needs no introduction, Trafford Lovething. Trafford's original Car Wash night at the old Man Alive club in the late 80's recreated Manchester’s love affair with disco music and made it credible again. Amongst Traffords other many claims to fame are he once danced the night away with Diana Ross at NYC's Studio 54 club, he was a roadie for the Sex Pistols during their infamous USA tour, he was a dancer with Sister Sledge at the Hacienda and recently appeared naked in the Guardian.  Nice.
This night will be anything but dull.

Good for: Pretending you can dance like John Travolta
Not for: Taking yourself seriously.
