Historic Manchester hotel 'set for revamp'

A historic Grade II-listed hotel in Manchester could get a new lease of life after it was snapped up by a Dublin-based property developer.

Princess on Portland - a large city centre hotel in a converted Victorian cotton mill - has been bought by Harcourt Developments for £8.5 million at the end of last month.

Those looking for hotels in Manchester may be interested to know that although the 85-bedroom building was revamped a few years ago, the new owners are keen to give it a new look in order to be able to compete against rival hotels.

Currently, Princess on Portland includes a 50-seat lounge bar, a 60-seat brasserie, a new business centre and eight state-of-the-art meeting and training rooms.

A new hotel in Manchester - the Yang Sing Oriental - is to open just round the corner from Princess on Portland next Monday (July 8th).

It will be the first oriental-themed hotel in the city and is on the edge of Chinatown.
