Manchester has been named as the most rock and roll city in the UK, while London's Shepherd's Bush is the rock star hotspot, a new poll has uncovered.

The city that produced Oasis, The Hollies and Morrissey - to name but a few - is the UK's rock capital as it has created more rock stars per head than any other British city.

Manchester finished top at producing rock stars, above neighbours Liverpool and Sheffield, while Glasgow, Coventry and Oxford also were beaten.

Meanwhile, the poll by guitar website Guitar Rock Star found that the west London suburb of Shepherd's Bush was the most popular place for musicians to live, with one in every 1,222 people claiming to have a musical talent.

The Who, Sex Pistols, The Clash and Pete Doherty are just a few of the rockers that have lived in the small London borough, which has a population of about 11,000.
